Get to Know This Project
The history of the Fishing community is fading away; all its culture, daily and structure are gone. While the floating community was moved to land and and integrated a part as a land society, the anchorage life of the Fishing community disappeared. Based on the research, there are just no more than 20 families still living on the sea and have anchorage life like the past, so I am very interested in why fishing society has such a significant change and how they adapt daily without relying on the ocean. Also, I am very interested in the atmosphere between the fishing community; they are very close to each other, not like urbanites are far from each other. Moreover, after the fishing community moved, they lost a place to gather. So I want to design a space for the fishing community to memory their anchorage life and urbanite to know more about their history.
BACKGROUND
TRANSFORMATION IN TIMELINE
This section shows the process of how the fishing community changed and the way they moved to land. Also, it represents the status changing; while they live on the sea, they are free as the ocean, they are intimate with each other in this society. After they moved to land, they got in the house, a stable home no more drifting day, but it is cramped for them. Their community was separated into different pieces in sai Kung, their staus became unstable and alienated from each other.

There was a bay aside a market. Rows of boats lined up to form a hub. A barge wandered on the water to tie them up. Semi-communal & private spaces staggered, Big boat became their collective communal area during festivals . Their interaction & reliance made the lives, grouping into a free float clustering spatial order.

Live with the people for pleasure together in wooden boats.
See the nets pouncing in the sunrise. Hear the boats praising the sunset.
